Yes, okay, I’m a DJ
Since 2022, I’ve been spinning tracks in clubs, at renegades, underground festivals, and Burning Man. It’s been a super fun adventure full of learnings.
Every time I play, there are countless hours I pour into digging up new music, curating it, and unleashing it as seamlessly as I can in an effort to tell a story.
The first time I touched a controller was in 2007 in my friend Conway’s basement. Back then, Skrillex was all the rage, and we would take turns mixing some of the most chaotic, high-tempo music that I haven’t really listened to since.
From 2012 until, well, 2022 I was a club photographer and videographer and I always felt like that was my role in the scene. The DJ was a separate life path and not mine. By way of simple exposure after moving to reno and befriending local collectives like House Party and The Biggest Little Tribe, I was eventually jumping into lineups, starting with Burning Man fundraisers and most recently underground campouts, sold-out club nights, and even the occassional wedding.
After forging SquidBridge, I don’t really carry a camera around at parties anymore. I set everthing up before it starts, and then I’m free to float around and enjoy myself. Making that decision also allowed me to make space for becoming a DJ, since I can trust that everything is endlessly recording, I don’t need to worry about it until it’s time to wrap up.
Like I said, it’s been an adventure, and super fun. Having spent my life dedicated to art, film, and making music, I pour that artistry into each of my sets and try to do something different.
I’ve added DJ gigs to my work section with a video from Heart Beat of Reno 2025 (still think this is the best set I’ve ever played) and some old Soundcloud uploads. I’ll continue to add sets, both video and audio-only as I play them.
